In this documentary in English (2022), we will dive into their history and explain who they are in a nutshell.
Known for their tattoos and cut fingers, the yakuza have in fact a vast and complex history. To try to understand it better, we will first see the origin of the yakuza, then we will see over the centuries and decades the evolution of this underworld, until arriving at today with the new generation of yakuzas.
We will speak in particular about the great bosses and mafia yakuzas, such as Kazuo Taoka, Fumiko Taoka (one of the most famous yakuza women), Kakuji Inagawa, Susumu Ishii or Yoshio Kodama.
But also the big criminal syndicates in Japan, such as the Yamaguchi-gumi, the Inagawa-kai and the Sumiyoshi-kai.
In this report, you will also have some interesting stories about the history of yakuza gangs: the time when a female yakuza led the biggest syndicate in Japan, the alliance between yakuza and the Cali cartel in cocaine trafficking, the gang wars between different yakuza factions and many others.
