Great video. I’d read that Ricca & Accardo (and possibly Murray Humphries) blocked Capone’s prison appeal as they knew he was a liability. This fits in with their low key approach to Outfit business.

Hey micheal,,,, if you’re wanting to do some more mob related movie/tv show reviews,,,, how’s about doing a Review on the tv mini series “crime story” produced by Michael Mann, set in the early 60’s in Chicago and focuses on the efforts of the head of Chicago’s major crime unit (the mcu) lieutenant Michael Torello (Dennis farina) working tirelessly with his team of guys to bring down the young up and coming outfit member Ray Luca (Anthony Dennison)

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched it Michael. I used to watch it with my dad when I was a young kid back in the 80’s.

I’d love to see you do a review on the series if you have the time to watch it all.

I love the way you present strong entrepreneurial figures that were left with a limited way of expressing their expertise. Some men with limited education and access to the privileged way some of the sons of political gangsters that were busy establishing or advancing their dynasties . I have seen those who were truly tough but had the patience and strength to build an organization with intellectual acumen in areas that were ready to be recognized and molded into huge successful platforms. One such man was Mikey Z. It’s been over 45 years since he was cut short of what he was building. It would be respectful to present a positive picture of this brilliant arbitrator. I like to think he was a man who preferred pace but was not willing to deny reality.

I think Tony Accardo might be the most successful mafia boss this country ever seen. He basically was the top guy in the outfit for 50 years from the 1940’s til his death in 1992. From what I researched he never spent a night in jail which is unheard especially for a guy that high up in a family. Then he became a multimillionaire thru legitimate businesses that his family could use for generations. Lastly he helped take that organization in Chicago to become one of the most powerful in the country by having the political control of Chicago and other places.

Omg! You have described Chicago as my family did when I was growing up! So, my family came here from Sicily (great grandfather) in that era and had a fruitstand in bridgeport by the stockyards! Im 50 this year, so I remember the late 70s early 80s era and seeing all the Lincoln’s and Cadillac’s parked on the streets outside the clubs.

And that’s why the The Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco and Las Vegas “Families” were all just offshoots or crews if you will, of The Chicago Outfit. Sure they may have operated their own Territories, but at the end of the day they all kicked up and reported to Accardo and The Outfit. At least that’s what I heard from family lore as my Great Grandfather and Great Uncle’s were bookmakers and bootleggers who worked for Irish Mob Boss Danny Hogan and his organization as well as their legitimate jobs as Pipe Fitters, Bartenders, Drivers and Barbers, in St. Paul Minnesota. However even Hogan’s Irish Mob organization had links to and paid tribute to The Chicago Outfit to operate out of the Twin Cities Minnesota. After some hits and Danny being killed in a car bombing by his Jewish underboss it sent the organization into chaos and it would eventually dismantle and fizzle out after a few more decades in the 60’s-70’s. I don’t know if true, but was basically told The Chicago Outfit basically ran everything west of Chicago and the Five Families were the power east of it.
