This is a compelling history but I’m beyond perplexed by one detail, that the term la cosa nostra was some big revelation for the FBI when the Italian “mafia” had gone by that name for a couple of centuries by this time.

This is so silly… Not sure what Cosa Nostra means? All the FBI had to do is consult an Italian Dictionary or ask someone at the Italian Embassy.
