I didn't know that this was Tom's first episode directing. Nice!

For me, this episode is a heater. I don't think its a bad episode. It just doesn't do a whole lot for me. Theres a lot of things I didn't catch the first time watching it. So I have picked up more as I've watched it more. I like that about it. I think ive just grown to dislike the throw away friends in a series. I think the things more valuable was the relationship building between lana and lex and the setup for how complex that is.

I didn't mind lex & lana getting together. For the direction of the series. It made sense. But… when first watching it 20+ years ago. I wasn't a fan. I think in the comics lex & Lois date. But the series kinda boxed themselves out of that one. So I felt they were just doing it that way instead. It just felt weird because it felt like someone in a meeting pointed out the problem and it was a cheap fix.

However… it does lead up to some of my favorite episodes.

19:50 Smallville at this stage was already well established, yet there is a lot of difference between the episodes. It seems to me that the alternation of screenwriters and directors is one of the biggest factors that led to this.

This is one of the best episodes of Smallville ever. Tom Welling's directorial debut was magnificent. It was reminiscent of the very best of The X-Files, and this is the kind of episode that Smallville needed more of, not stuff like Thirst.

I was a kid myself when this aired and I remember I always thought Maddy was super cute. She's about the same age as me so part of me always hoped I'd get a shot with her. XP
I did have a problem with the Lex and Lana relationship. And it's not because of Clark. Cuz I know Clark ends up with Lois. I think what it is is that I always felt that Lana was too good for Lex. Lex is just…Lex. He's always doing underhanded and deceitful things and later even becomes a murderer and I felt Lana deserved better than someone like that.

Im part of a few Smallville fan groups on facebook and iv noticed in the past 6 years or so theres a massive increase in Tom Welling Private Chat accounts that want to be added to the groups, it also tells me they are already in lots of Smallville groups. So they are deluding alot of people

Great podcast guys!! All of you were really engaged with the episode and we got lots of behind the scenes info. This is Talkville at its best!! Loved the young guest actress!! Great scenes with Clark and Lois, Clark and Maddie and Clark and Martha!! I thought Tom hit it out of the park for his first time in the directors chair!! Michael mentioned that Tom's relationship with his young guest star was a preview of his being an awesome dad. Loud also mentioned how well Clark was with children and in season 10 she tells Clark when they have children he will be an amazing dad. Great parallel!! Just awesome guys!!

No, it is definitely NOT fine to go with your best friend girl (or former), especially because they just broke up, if any person think thats fine, they are mental, and thats one of the things that shows how people disrespect close friends, family, and moral values. This was most stupid plot continuation with Lana character, and later all the drama with it, where she even went to the point of marriage, and then brake up with Lex just because she found out about Clark powers. Idiotic and stupid direction.
